LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 79 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: crappies good on jigs, minnows in 20 to 25 feet of water in the brush; catfish good on jug lines with perch in 25 feet of water in the creek channels and the mouths of coves; bass fair on jigs, topwater lures, crankbaits in 10 to 25 feet of water in the brush; white bass fair early and late on jigs, spinners off windy points.

•BULL SHOALS: 76 to 82 degrees, clear, 3 feet low. Outlook: Buck Creek Marina reports: blue catfish, flathead catfish good on jug lines with perch; crappies fair on minnows in 25 to 30 feet of water in the brush.

•SMITHVILLE: 74 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: bass fair on plastic frogs, Senkos over the flooded grass and jigs and plastic worms in the timber and along laydowns; catfish fair on worms, stinkbaits in 10 feet of water off points and main-lake humps; crappies good on jigs, minnows in 20 feet of water in the new brush piles that were placed in the lake and along the tree lines above either bridge.

•POMME DE TERRE: 83 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Nemo Landing reports: catfish fair to good on limb lines, trotlines with cut shad; crappies fair to good on minnows in 18 feet of water in the timber; white bass fair at dusk on spinners where fish are surfacing.

COFFEY COUNTY: 74 to 88 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Coffey County reports: channel catfish good on cut bait; smallmouth bass good on crankbaits, grubs; crappies, white bass fair.

•MILFORD: 71 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Jim’s Corner reports: white bass fair on minnows, Shad Slabs near the water tower on the west bank; catfish good on a variety of baits on the main lake flats; wipers fair on chicken livers in the spillway.

•CLINTON: 79 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Wildlife and Parks reports: channel catfish good on stinkbait, cut bait, liver in baited areas.

POMONA: 78 degrees, stained, normal. Outlook: Lighthouse Marina reports: channel catfish good on worms, soybeans in 13 feet of water off the points; crappies fair on minnows in 8 to 10 feet of water along hedge rows.

•LA CYGNE: 75-85 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Linn County Parks reports: channel catfish good on shrimp, night crawlers; bass fair on plastic worms.

WYANDOTTE: 75 degrees, stained, 1 foot low. Outlook: Wildlife and Parks reports: crappies fair on jigs, suspended over deep ledges on main lake; largemouth bass fair (but small) on plastic baits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits off main-lake points; wipers good (but small) on shad imitations where fish are surfacing early; channel catfish poor to fair (a few are being caught on prepared baits, worms on shallow flats).

You won’t have to leave the metro area to find good fishing this weekend. The action at the James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area near Lee’s Summit has picked up. With the water temperature now in the mid-70s, the largemouth bass, channel catfish and bluegills all are biting.
