Gold Beach Police are seeking a suspect or suspects who stole
thousands of dollars of fishing gear from boats on Tuesday, September
11, according to Chief Russ Merkley.
According to Merkley, many of the boats were located at slips at the
Port of Gold Beach, although some were in the Port parking lot. In
addition, the ramp fee box was broken into as well as the Coke machine
at the airport. The storage unit of Five Star Charters was also broken
into.
Merkley said that there are 16-20 victims who lost tens of thousands
of dollars worth of items including fishing gear, tackle boxes, fish
finders, lures, etc. New victims have been reporting the missing items
on a daily basis.
The chief said that items appeared to be taken on the night of
September 10 or the morning of September 11. Although there is no
suspect at this time, Merkley said that those involved must have had
some type of vehicle large enough to haul a lot of fishing gear.
He is asking anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary or anyone
who might be offered a large quantity of fishing equipment at a cheap
price to contact his department at 247-6671.
