Community Ed fall lacrosse clinics
The Community Education Youth Athletics Program is offering four lacrosse
clinics this fall for players of all skill levels. Two clinics will be held
on Saturday, Sept. 29, including a clinic for youth in grades K-6 that will
take place from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., and a clinic for girls in grades 7-12 that
will be run from 1 - 3 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 6, beginners in grades 7-12 who
are interested in the sport can join an Introduction to Lacrosse clinic held
from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. From 1 - 3 p.m. that afternoon, players in grades 7-12
with previous experience may attend the Advanced Clinic. The fall lacrosse
clinics will be led by the Forest Lake head lacrosse coach. Cost is $39.
Equipment will be provided. All clinics will take place at Southwest Junior

Swanson: Scholar-Athlete winner
The University of Montana’s Matt Lebsock and Krista Swanson were named UM’s
2006-07 Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners. Each of the 18
award winners was selected by their university for outstanding athletic and
academic performance during the 2006-07 school year. To qualify, each
student-athlete needed to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of
3.2, be a member of the graduating class and/or have completed their final
year of intercollegiate athletic eligibility, have completed at least two
years of intercollegiate competition at the institution and be a
letter-winner. Swanson, a two-time selection to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District VII At-Large Team, was a three-time All-Big Sky
Conference performer for the Grizzly golf team. She had runner-up individual
finishes at the Big Sky Conference championships in 2005 and ‘06 and helped
Montana to the 2006 team title, the program’s first league championship. A
two-time winner of UM’s President’s Award, Swanson was a four-time selection
to the Academic All-Big Sky Conference team.
Kickboxing pro-am at Hinckley
A pro-am kickboxing event featuring a world kickboxing championship fight
will be held at the Grand Casino Hinckley Events & Convention Center on
Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. The event will feature United States Boxing
Champion Heath Fonnest from North Branch, Minnesota, against Stacey Gosden
from England. Admission prices for the Saturday night bouts are $55 for
ringside seats, $35 for VIP, and $25 for general seating. To purchase

Sunrise Bassmasters’ for YSB
The 19th Annual Sunrise Bassmasters Bass Tournament benefitting Lakes Area
Youth Service Bureau will take place on North/South Center Lakes in Lindstrom
on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Rules: Two person teams.
Five-fish limit with 12 inch minimum size. Entry Fee: $80 ($60/prize money
and $20/expenses and donation). Registration, sign-in, take off and weigh in
will be at Hillcrest RV Park, 32741 N Lakes Trail, Lindstrom, on the

Youth Fishing Day - On Saturday, Sept. 29, the Sunrise Bassmasters are
sponsoring their annual Youth Fishing Day from 8 a.m. to noon for youth age
12-17. Both boys and girls are welcome to participate. This is a free event
but pre-registration is required as space is limited to the first 16 youth to
call YSB at 651-464-3685. Rods, tackle and snacks are provided. Prizes will
be awarded!
Harvest Howl at Wildlife Center
The Wildlife Science Center, 5463 West Broadway in Forest Lake, is having its
12th Annual Harvest Howl on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Celebrate the fall season and nature’s bounty with a day of family fun.
Festivities will include live animal demonstrations, Native American
demonstrations, pumpkin painting contests, games for kids, campfires,
archery, vendors, and more. Presenters and Vendors include: Native American

Osceola Duathlon in October
The Osceola Duathlon is scheduled for Sunday, October 14 starting at 8:30
a.m. at Oakey Park in downtown Osceola. Held in conjunction with the event is
the 5K Run/Walk starting at approximately 9 a.m., and the Kids’ Duathlon at
11 a.m. Athletes and spectators can take in several aspects of Wisconsin’s
beauty from the St. Croix River in Polk County to the quaint downtown
neighborhoods. Enjoy the colors this peak fall color weekend has to offer.
The Osceola Duathlon boasts very achievable distances; a 3-mile run, 22-mile
bike, and a 1-mile run and kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14. Local
community members, businesses and corporations are encouraged to participate
individually or as a two- or three-person relay team. All participants
receive a shirt, goody bag and food and fun after the event. Register now and
get the early bird discount: Current fees are $45 for individual, $70 for a

BESA Site-In Days in Hugo
The Bald Eagle Sportsmen’s Association (BESA) is hosting its annual Site-In
Days every Saturday and Sunday through October 28, and weekdays Oct. 22-26.
It is open to youth, adult members and nonmembers (youth must be accompanied
by an adult). BESA allows rifles, shotguns (slugs only), handguns and muzzle
loaders during the site-in. Included are 25-, 50- and 100-yard covered
ranges. Cost is $8 for the first gun and $6 for each additional gun.
Dates and times are as follows:
Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sundays 12 to 5 p.m.
September 29 and 30, October 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21.
Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 26, the range is open from 10 a.m. to

Martini Bongo Bash for new Forest Lake Sports Complex
Shine your shoes, grab a fedora and mingle to the swingin’ sounds of Ol’ Blue
Eyes at the Martini Bongo Bash at Forest Hills Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at
7 p.m. The public event is a fundraiser for the Sports Complex being built by
the Forest Lake Area Athletic Association (FLAAA). Cost is $25 per person,
which includes Clayton’s Atomic Appetizers and one free martini or soda. The
evening will feature ’50s and ’60s lounge music, a silent auction with
sports, Rat Pack memorabilia and discounted martinis in several flavors.
