INDIAN RIVER COUNTY
Capt. Ron Bielefeld of Tight Lines Guide Service in
Sebastian said there has been a good showing of redfish schools on the flats
inside the Sebastian Inlet. He said he has been able to locate and fish a
school of about 50 fish up to 15 pounds on more than one occasion. The rain
and wind from squalls has hampered fishing efforts a bit, but during clear
periods the bite is good for snook, jacks and trout, too. He said to target
spots where bait is funneled off a flat.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY
The surf fishing along the beaches should be good for another day or so until
the southerly current along the shoreline becomes too strong to fish. As the
weather system Invest 98 moves into the Gulf Stream and away from the
Sunshine State, it will generate a ground swell that should start to be seen
by offshore and beach anglers by Saturday with full force peaking late Sunday
and into Monday. The fishing inside the Fort Pierce Inlet will be good for
snook and even some tarpon feeding on mullet schools arriving on incoming
tides.
''MARTIN COUNTY
Capt. Doug Colbath of the Lady Stuart party boat in Jensen Beach had his
hands full cleaning dolphin following Thursday's half-day trip. The boat's
first and only stop of the day in 75 feet of water on the Six Mile Reef
produced an excellent catch of 18 dolphin to 13 pounds, a mangrove snapper,
several lane snapper and vermilion snapper. Colbath said the conditions and
slight north current were perfect and they left the fish biting.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE
Bass fishing at the lake has left a little to be desired, but the worst part
of the year is now behind anglers. Low water is still an issue in several
spots — including boat ramps — so boaters who trailer there should remain
flexible and be ready to know of more than one ramp to put in. A few bass are
being caught in the Kissimmee River and at Indian Prairie Canal, but six
pounds is about as large as anyone can expect. Try fishing crank baits or
Carolina rigged worms for the best action.
