The 132 anglers checked reported 1,028 bass, 94 bluegill and 3
bullhead, all released. Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday,
reservations only, catch-and-release fishing for all species. Some

Chollas:
Open daily to youngsters 15 and under.
Cuyamaca:
Stocked with 1,200 pounds of trout last week from Mt. Lassen and
another 1,500 pounds from the Department of Fish and Game to prepare
for Saturday's O.P. Ball Memorial Fishin' In The Pines Free Kids
Fishing Derby. Fishing starts at 6 a.m., registration at 8 a.m. Free
fishing, barbecue and giant raffle, with prizes in various age
categories for all kids 15 and under fishing. Saturday is National
Hunting and Fishing Day, so adults don't need a fishing license in
California. Joni Saudera, El Cajon, 14-8 channel catfish, Hog
Wild Catfish Dip Bait, Fishing Pier. Renee Pifer, La Mesa, limit
of trout, 1-8 biggest, Power Bait, Shoreline. Open daily.
Dixon:
Slow. Trout season opens Nov. 2 following a plant of 2,400 pounds.

El
Capitan: The 133 anglers checked reported 9 bass kept (116 bass
released), 10 channel catfish, 2 crappie and 1 blue catfish. Kierra
Silveira, 5.25 bass (released, first fish), spinner, North Arm.
Open Thursdays and Mondays for fishing only (permits must be purchased
at the iron rangers on Mondays); Friday through Sunday for fishing and
water contact (skiing, wakeboarding and Jet Skis, etc.).
Henshaw:
Good for channel catfish and anglers on the Fishing Float catching
an occasional crappie or two. Sharon Martenis, Pauma Valley, 4-8
channel catfish, Fishing Float. Open daily.
Hodges:
The 211 anglers checked reported 2 bass kept (97 bass released), 39
crappie, 11 channel catfish. Austin Kelley, 9, and Jesse
Kelley, 11, Oceanside, 3 channel catfish, 19.5 with a 10.80,
mackerel, Narrows. Open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
Jennings:
Lake dropping rapidly, about three feet per week, according to
supervising ranger Hugh Marx. Bass action good in the shallows
early and late in the day. Crawdad imitations working well. Catfish
biting deep, 60 feet or so. Redear sunfish eating half a night crawler
in 25 to 30 feet of water. Twilight special for boats, $20 after 5 p.m.
Trout season starts Oct. 19 following a stock of 2,000 pounds of trout.
Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Loveland:
The 81 anglers reported 76 bass (released), 27 bluegill, 9 carp and
8 channel catfish. Open daily.
Miramar:
The 31 anglers checked reported 1 bass kept (4 bass released), 10
channel catfish and 1 bluegill. Open daily to fishing and boating. Iron
rangers or electronic rangers near the concession stand.
Morena:
Big bass and one lost trout showed last week. Chris Patek, Chula
Vista, 8-15 bass, plastic worm. Thomas Williams, 7-3 bass.
Titus Luman, 1-2 trout, yellow spinner, launch ramp area. Open
daily.
Murray:
The 39 anglers checked reported 7 bass kept (15 bass released), 43
bluegill. Bill Van Wulven, Lemon Grove, 10-6 and 10-3, released.
Open daily to fishing and boating.
Otay,
Lower: The 154 anglers checked reported 8 bass kept (53 bass
released), 74 bluegill, 9 channel catfish and 2 crappie. Larry
Wilson, San Diego, 3 channel catfish, 15.10 total, Harvey Arm. Open
Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
Otay,
Upper: The 15 anglers checked reported 14 bass, all released. Open
Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday to catch-and-release fishing, barbless
hooks only.
Poway:
Slow, with some fish being caught at the Log Boom. Bass up to 7 pounds
hitting. Lake is celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day Saturday
by offering a discount on permits and boat rentals. Adult permits
Saturday will be $4, and youth permits will be reduced to $1. Boat
rentals also discounted with motorboats renting for $15 and rowboats
for $8. No state fishing license required.
Santee
Lakes: Manny Roybal, La Mesa, 16-0 channel catfish, meal worms and
marshmallows, Lake 4. James Sturkey, San Diego, 13-0 channel
catfish, mackerel, Lake 3. Bryce Black, El Cajon, 8-12 channel
catfish, chicken liver, lake 3. Open daily.
San
Vicente: The 119 anglers checked reported 8 bass kept (268 bass
released), 96 bluegill, 10 channel catfish and 1 blue catfish. Open
Thursday and Friday for fishing and water contact; Saturday and Sunday
for water contact only.
Sutherland:
The 115 fishermen checked reported 2 bass kept (160 bass released),
42 bluegill, 23 channel catfish and 1 crappie. Mark Dobson,
Rancho Penasquitos, 5 bass (released), 7.10 biggest. Michael Coney,
El Cajon, 5.65 albino channel catfish, Santa Ysabel Arm. Bill
Van Wulven, Lemon Grove, 6-4 bass, Lil George, released. Janelle
Alva, 13, Ontario, 0.75-pound bluegill, first fish, Dock Cove. Open
Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (permits must be purchased at the
iron ranger stations on Mondays).
Sweetwater:
The 56 anglers checked reported 4 bass kept (16 bass released), 6
bluegill, 6 carp and 4 channel catfish. Open Saturday, Sunday and
Monday.
Wohlford:
Temporary ban on private boats remains due to the quagga mussel
infestation at nearby Dixon, Lower Otay and San Vicente. Decent catfish
action, with good numbers being caught near the West Buoy Line.
Jesse Roberson and Caroline Wigg, Vista, 7 channel catfish,
24-4 with a 7-15 by Jesse, shrimp, Oakvale side near the West Buoy
Line. Open Saturday and Sunday.
Eastern
Sierra: Dave Paules, San Diego, 6-6 trout, orange wooly bugger,
Upper Twin Lake, west of Bridgeport. His 5-5 trout took first place in
the lake's fishing derby.

Loma Sportfishing, H&M Landing, Fisherman's Landing: 116 anglers,
five overnight boats: 137 albacore, 26 yellowfin, 1 skipjack. 45
anglers, two three-quarter-day boats: 21 yellowtail, 9 calico bass, 46
bonito, 6 rockfish. 41 anglers, three half-day boats: 67 calico bass,
36 bonito, 1 ling cod, 71 rockfish.
Seaforth:
17 anglers, one full-day boat: 17 albacore. 36
anglers, one three-quarter-day boat: 13 yellowtail, 95 bonito, 7 calico
bass, 9 rockfish. 18 anglers, two half-day boats: 26 red rock cod, 11
calico bass, 56 rockfish, 1 sheephead, 2 lingcod.
Islandia:
58 anglers, three half-day boats: 2 bonito, 68 calico bass, 1 ling cod,
8 red snapper, 72 rockfish, 8 sheephead, 1 yellowtail, 31 salmon
grouper.
Oceanside:
28 anglers, one half-day boat: 43 sculpin, 10 rockfish and 29 bocaccio.
East
Cape:John Ireland of Rancho Leonero Resort wondered what the
fishing would be like after Hurricane Henriette passed. He found out
Wednesday when he returned to the ranch to find good reports on dorado,
yellowfin, sailfish, striped marlin, blue marlin, roosterfish, pargo,
and even wahoo, he said. “The dorado bite is the best we've seen in
years, with limits for most anglers,” Ireland said. Yellowfin are 20 to
40 pounds, and dorado are ranging from 10 to 12 pounds to big bulls
topping 50 pounds. Two or three blue marlin in the 200-to 300-pound
range being released daily. Inshore, schools of roosterfish roaming off
most beaches. Mike Mason of Kona and Dan Walsh of
Encinitas, four days on pangas and cruisers, 2 marlin (released), 23
yellowfin 20 to 40 pounds; 25 dorado with four bulls over 50 pounds; 5
roosters (released), 2 pargo, countless skipjack and tuna under 10
pounds, all released.
Cabo
San Lucas:John Donovan at Redrum Sportfishing reports good fishing
for bigger tuna to 100 pounds, plus sailfish joined the party last week
in addition to striped marlin and bull dorado. Larry Edwards at
Cortez Yacht Sportfishing reports boats averaging two striped marlin
per day with the Gaviota Fleet, but one boat, the Gaviota X had a
15-marlin release day, and the Gaviota XI released 12 in one day.
