Fisher Poets Take to the Stage
Reflective Poetry, Sea Shanties, Salty Tales Hook Audiences at 11th
Annual Fisher Poets Gathering in Astoria, Ore.
ASTORIA, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce:
WHAT:
Weathered by ocean wind and salty spray, fishermen and women will put
down their nets and pick up the mike as part of the 11th annual Fisher
Poets Gathering in Astoria, Ore., the former canning capital of the

long-standing fisher tradition of oral story-telling inspired by
earning a living on rivers and oceans.
Attendees will be treated to a mix of crafted free verse, rhyming
couplets, humorous readings, boisterous songs and touching personal
accounts as participants give voice to original stories, poetry and
songs often recorded in journals or shared via radio during long hours
at sea. In addition to the evening performances, the three-day event
includes morning workshops and ongoing art exhibits at nearby
galleries.
WHO:
More than 50 writers, musicians and artists in the commercial fishing
industry from the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, British Columbia,
California, Chesapeake Bay and other coastal communities, including
local and regional favorites Wesley "Geno" Leech, Harrison "Smitty"
Smith, and Jon Broderick, the event founder.
